It is officially 2011 and to celebrate I am kicking off the new year with a little challenge (resolutions are so 2010). I've decided to ban shopping (for clothes) until my last credit card is 100% paid off. [dun dun dun]. I know, I know, swearing off shopping is not exactly novel, but it is much needed. Lately, I've been taking the easy way out when it comes to my clothes. I wear the "same old, same old" for awhile and when I get bored I buy something shiny and new.

My estimated pay off date is March 30th which leaves me 90 days of no shopping, by far my longest self-imposed ban. I'll even open my pain up to all of you. Will you join me? Please? There is just one rule, there are no rules. Oh no wait, that's fight club. The one rule is, no shopping until my credit card's paid off. Deal? Deal.

Maybe I'll even get it paid off sooner to put us all out of our misery, me out of my debt, and SSF out of his constant state of worrying about money.

Hooray 2011!

What are your plans for the New Year? Will any of you actually play along with me? Does this cartoon make you laugh a little?

  1. OH MAN. I'm impressed and terrified for you...while I'm not on a shopping ban, looking over the budget made me realize I am on the right path to paying them off if I can curb my shopping better...with the first being next month, the 2nd being April, and then the two monsters after that...

Good luck! I'll definitely commiserate with you.

  2. Ok, so I have been sucking at the whole keeping-up-with-my-bloggy-people thing, so first thing's first:

    1. CONGRATULATIONS on being engaged!!!! Your ring is so beautiful, and I wanted to comment on it at the time, but I was in transit and looking at it on my iPhone, not an easy way to comment.
    2. I'm totally on-board with no clothes shopping until your cc is paid off. Here's my motivation: I'm trying to lose 15 lbs and I think it should be done by March. So, I'll want to buy some new clothes then and not waste my money on clothes in the meantime. So this works out perfectly!

    Yah for 2011!

Well since I'm already trying not to shop, I'll try to play along with you :) Good luck!

  4. That little cartoon makes me laugh a lot. I'm in debt for the first time in years due to a cat emergency last month. I have until June to pay it off before the interest rate goes up to a ridiculous amount. Good luck with your goal and you'll do fine! It feels amazing to get out of debt.

  5. am i allowed to take a car insurance provider to small claims court? The insurance provider denied my claim, (I would take the at fault driver to small claims however I have no address to serve them or send a demand letter). The additional driver was at fault however his insurance carrier claims there is a difference in our statements to make sure they have to use the word of their insured vs. my word. It looks like they acted in poor faith and did not accomplish a proper investigation would this certainly be a valid claim in small claims court? I would like to consider the responsible drivers insurer (not my own) to small claims for the damages to my car.

  7. Grace, all I can say is you can do it. Remember, don't make eye contact with the sale racks, drink margaritas, and get out of your comfort zone in your closet. You can do it. And when you need a shoulder to cry on, I'm here for ya lady!
